🎧 IELTS listening Test
The IELTS Listening Test is divided into Four Parts ( 1–4) , each designed to assess different listening skills through a variety of tasks. The test lasts about 30 minutes.
🕒 Total Duration:
30 minutes (listening and answering questions while the audio plays)
+10 minutes (to transfer answers – paper-based test only)
💻 In the computer-based IELTS, no extra time is provided for transferring answers. Instead, candidates are given 2 minutes at the end of the test to review their responses.
Test Structure:
Part 1- Everyday Conversation
In this section, you will hear a conversation between two speakers in a social context. For example, the conversation may be about booking a hotel room, ordering food in a restaurant, or making travel arrangements. There will be 10 questions to answer, which will test your ability to understand specific details and main ideas.
Part 2-Monologue on a Social Topic
In this section, you will hear a monologue (one speaker) in a non-academic context. For example, the monologue may be a tour guide giving information about a historical site, or an announcement at a train station. There will be 10 questions to answer, which will test your ability to understand specific details, main ideas, and the speaker's attitude or purpose.
Part 3-Group Discussion in an Educational Setting
In this section, you will hear a conversation between up to four speakers in an academic context. For example, the conversation may be a discussion between students about an assignment, or a conversation between a student and a professor. There will be 10 questions to answer, which will test your ability to understand specific details, main ideas, and the speakers' attitudes or opinions.
Part 4- Academic Lecture or Talk
In this section, you will hear a monologue (one speaker) in an academic context. For example, the monologue may be a lecture or talk on a scientific or academic topic. There will be 10 questions to answer, which will test your ability to understand specific details, main ideas, and the speaker's attitude or purpose.
The listening test aims to evaluate the ability to understand spoken English across different contexts and accents, while also assessing skills in identifying key information, main ideas, and the speaker’s tone or intention.
